Which one, honestly
Do it yourself if your draft already opens in a real moment and you have an evening and a second reader. Ours if the draft exists but reads like a résumé, or the opening could be anyone's, and the deadline is inside two weeks. A $229–$379 package if you want phone calls, brainstorming from zero and two weeks of back-and-forth, and you are ordering before 24 October.
Applying to graduate school instead? A statement of purpose is a different essay with a different reader: SOP Edit. Querying literary agents? Query Letter Edit.

Questions
On the pricing page we read on 16 October 2026, one established editing service lists proofreading at $69 (48-hour turnaround), proofreading plus a critique at $149 (48 hours), three to five essays by one editor at $229 (7 days) and a coaching package at $379, with 24-hour rush at +$59. Our edit-and-rewrite of one essay is $69, back within 1 day, rush included.
It depends on what you get for it. A $69 proofread fixes typos and grammar and leaves the structure alone. Our $69 edit does the structural work too: a marked-up edit with the reason for each cut, a clean rewrite from your own facts inside the word limit, a second opening and a cut list. If you want phone calls and two weeks of email with an editor, that is the $229–$379 tier, and the 7-day turnaround does not fit a 1 November deadline sent after 24 October.
Yes, and the free check on this page is the same 12 questions we start with. Cut any first sentence that could open someone else's essay, move the lesson to the end, replace each claim with the moment that shows it, and read it aloud once. If you can do that in an evening, you do not need an editor. Most students can do half of it; the other half is what they pay for.
Send the draft by 30 October. Orders come back within 1 day of payment, which leaves a day for your own changes and for pasting it into the application. Supplemental essays are one order each at the same price.
No reputable one does, and neither do we. We work from your draft and the facts you give us; nothing is invented; you make the final changes and submit it yourself. Check your school's and each college's rules on outside help before you order from anyone.
